The BIG Apple
Finally we made our trip to NYC, it was awesome and such a cool place with so much to do!
Here we go...
Friday: Nellie and I had our alarms on 03.45, I was surprisingly awake when the alarm went off! Got dressed and went to our taxi. Sinnce we already checked in we could go straight to security which was really fast and so we just waited for our flight for about 40 min. Unfortunately I didn't get a window seat, I was suppose to have one but the guy next to me took it :( When we approached the city the sun was rising and I caught a glimpse of Manhattan surrounded by mist and with a pinkish light from the sun, it literally looked like a fairytale land! Fast forwarding a bit we arrived at the hostel at about 8.40 am and left our bags. Our hostel was The Local, in Queens. It it inside an old elevator factory but the funny thing is they don't have an elevator in the building haha...The interior was very cool, kind of industrial vintage. They had a bar and a roof terrace with an amazing view over Manhattan. Weather was great! We left the hostel walking towards a bridge along the waterfront. Ended up at Roosevelt Island which was a nice calm residential area(island). We asked a couple how to get from there and they told us there was a tramway over the water so we caught it and in a few minutes we where in the other side. From the tram we had a nice view(see photo). We walked along the streets of Upper East Side towards Central Park and then a bit in the park. Later we caught the subway to Chelsea where we had lunch at a place called Bill's Burger, my burger was called Fat Cat! The Chelsea Market and High Line were near so we visited those places as well. The market was super busy unfortunately since we were planning on having lunch there..
Later in the afternoon we went back to the hostel to check in. We stayed in a 6-bed room, very comfortable beds and ensuite. I can certainly recommend this hostel! After some powernapping we went to Williamsburg(Brooklyn) as Gustav had been there before. It was a great place for food and vintage shopping(unfortunately we only had 10 min before they closed:( ). We found an Asian restaurant called Baoburg where we had dinner and it was so tasty and not too expensive! I had Pad Thai, yum! We sat outside and it was very cozy with mismatching chairs and tables and lights in the trees. Recommend! After dinner we walked to a rooftop bar nearby that Gustav visited before. Walking out on the terrace I felt overwhelmed, the view was AMAZING! We all agreed we could have been staring on it for hours. The bar is in a hotel called Wythe and you have to show ID when entering but it is free! We stayed for a while and then caught the subway to Brooklyn Bridge where the view also was very good. I finally got to see my wallpaper in real life, never thought that would happen :'D We stayed until 10PM ish and then went back to go to bed after a long day.
Sathurday: Weather was a bit cloudy but no rain. We woke up around 8am, went to a nearby place to have breakfast and then off to do sightseeing. We visited Battery Park and looked at the statue of liberty from a distance, fed squirrells from our hands(!), checked out Wall Street, the famous bull and the Trump building. We also visited The memorial of the World Trade Center. Two massive holes where water is running, made me sad thinking about such a horrible happening. Why? Some people took selfies and photos where they smiled, that isn't very suitable for this place according to me, kinda gives the wrong impression... Anyway, leaving that we went shopping, or rather Nellie went shopping while Gustav and I had a look haha. Later we headed back to the hostel to nap and then we went to Williamsburg again to eat and party. We found a cozy place named Enid's where we had really tasty food! Nellie and I had a zucchini sallad with chicken, egg and leaves etc and it was sooo good!! We left the place around 10ish and went back to the Wythe hotel for a while. I read in the hostel's folder about NYC of a club close to the hostel so we went back to find it and once we did we were denied entrance cause we were wearing sneakers!! Seriously?! Wasn't much to do about it so we went back to the hostel and our beds.
Sunday: Today it was raining a lot and the winds were cold, not very nice! We decided to go to the National History Museum but once we came there probably the entire city thought the same idea. The line was crazy long, we couln't even see the end of it! We quickly decided to pospone the museum til Monday and went to Times Square instead. It was very cool even though the weather was bad. We found a café and then decided to do some more shopping, didn't buy anything this time either.. Gustav and Nellie had tickets for a concert so around dinner time we went back to the hostel(it finally stopped raining) and then we left again at 6.30. I went back into town and visited Barnes & Noble and Forever 21 in Times Square. It was super busy! I bought a skirt, a top and a hoodie and when it was my turn to pay my card wouldn't work so had to go out, through all people to an ATM, go back, wait in line and then I could pay! At about 10.30 I went back to a diner nearby the hostel and met up with Nellie and Gustav. I had a bagel and cheesecake and Gustav had coffee. Nellie went back to the hostel before us. Walked back at like 12ish.
Monday: Woke up and packed our bags, checked out and went to the museum before they opened. We came in quite early and walked around the whole complex before we had lunch. After that we walked through Central Park towards the headquarters of Trump and was met by the Columbus Day parade. It made it a bit difficult for us to get to the subway station as we had to cross the road and you could only do that in certain places and there were people everywhere! We finally got to our destination and could go back to get our bags and head to the airport. We came back to RIT at about 6 PM. THE END :D
