Keeping busy

Monday: Today the three of us decided to go to the Marketplace Mall which is about a 10 min bus ride from here. The ride was only $1!! so cheap and yet no one hardly uses the bus in this city... We arrived around 13 o clock and checked out all the different stores. Walking towards one of the shops we heard birds so we followed the sound to a pet shop and were shocked when we saw they sold puppies and kittens there!! Hedgehoges even! Sure they was adorable but that is not the way it should be, felt so sorry for those animals :( We finished our shopping and headed back to catch the bus. When it was suppose to arrive we checked our app and it said it would arrive 14 min later! These buses cannot be trusted for sure, kinda glad I'm staying on campus and don't have to worry about transportation.

When we came back Nellie and I went to check out the pool on campus. Unfortunately, the leisure pool was closed so we had to go into the bigger swimming pool. We were also happy to see that they had a sauna in the changing room! After swimming we had dinner at Grazie's and spent the rest of the evening in our room.

Tuesday: today I was invited to an architecture orientation, that is when all the new students meet up and get to know some of the faculty members, eachother and more facts about the program. I came there at 8.30 and was given a name tag and then I started talking with a few of the others, among them Jules, who will be one of my teachers and my academic advisor. I met with him in Malmö so it was good to see a familiar face. After the mingle session we went to an auditorium to listen to some faculty members talk about the different programs and a bit about the building and activites they arrange. We had a small break and then the architecture students went to a classroom to hear Jules talk more about our program and everyone introduced themselves. Not all of the people were there and I was probably the youngest one! This is a graduate program which means that all of the other people already has bachelor degrees and some work experience in different areas. Later we had a scavanger hunt and then lunch and group photo. I had to leave after that since Nellie was waiting at a sale on campus to buy us a fridge, we got the last one!

When we'd finally paid and got it into our room I went back to see Jules and talk about my courses. Apparently I'm not suppose to take the course I thought I was but I don't mind, these ones sounds fun as well! So I'm now registred for Architectural studio I: Site, Architectural history I, Furniture Design and Drawing I. A lot of practical courses, but I prefer that! Courses start on Monday but from what I've heard the first week is not usually too bad. Altough, the architecture courses are at a graduate level so they might be a bit heavier.

After dinner we didn't do much, there were a lot of freshmen and parents outside since the big move-in day was today. Most of them are only 18 years old which is not hard to tell either, since all of them look really young!

Wednesday: This morning Nellie, Shinee(a Chinese girl in our corridor) and I took a walk in the forest on campus. The track was a bit confusing but nice and lots of squirrels! At lunch time we had a floor meeting and our RA(The one responsible for our floor) bought us lunch. We introduced ourselves and told everyone two interesting facts about eachother. Our floor is a women only floor and all the other girls are freshmen=very young haha! After the meeting Gustav, Nellie and I met up with Susan, a woman I've been emailing with the last couple of months. She has helped me a lot in terms of answering questions, giving me tips and looking for accomodation. She took us on a tour around Rochester and showed us some beautiful neighbourhoods! The houses were amazing and no house looked like the other. It's too bad the local transportation and bike routes aren't very good cause I think I speak for all of us when I say we definitly want to go back into town soon!
We drove around about two hours, what felt like half an hour(!) and when we came back we had dinner and then Nellie and I took a walk to Barnes & Noble which is a big book store at campus. OMG, there were soooo many nice things in there!! They had lots of RIT merchandise, cool and fun books, art supplies, magazines, you name it. I really wanted to buy something but I'm gonna wait until we get the material list next week.

Later in the evening there was a show with a hypnotist. I'm not sure wether it was staged or not but he asked for about ten volunteers from the audience and made them fall into some sort of sleep. He then made them do all sorts of things, like playing instruments, nurture babies, act like kangaroos and drive cars. It was really entertaining, I laughed so hard!! If you ever have the change to see a hypnotist I highly recommend it :)

That's all for now, bye!

This is where I went to orientation!
Some photos of campus
The school mascot, they also have a hockey team called the Tigers!
Forest walk
Typical American street
This is a Frank Lloyd house, for those of you who have no idea who I'm refering too, he is a very famous architect :)

Last but not least, some pictures of where we are staying! Sorry about the mess ;)
